A new Act on libraries will come into force on January 1st.

The vision is that library services shall be available for all citizens in the Faroe Islands. The Act builds on the IFLA/UNESCO’s manifestos on libraries and that libraries are a Human Right. We believe that access to a Library is a fundamental value to all citizens, not least children, citizens with special needs and newcomers to our communities.

Working on the Act we were inspired by Library Acts in the Nordic Countries, and at the Nordic UNESCO meeting in Mariehamn last year, we used the opportunity to acquaint ourselves with the Libraries in Åland. Thank you all for help and inspiration. We really look forward to see our new act on Libraies in function.
