Decimal Classification - DK5

Libraries in the Faroe Islands use DK5 Decimal Classification System to organize and shelve its holdings.

Shelving

The Libraries books are classified by subject, given a call number and placed on the shelves in numerical order by DK5 classification numbers, so that books on the same subject stand together, e.g.

When two or more books have the same classification number, the second line of the call number is placed in alphabetic order. The second line usually shows the first three letters of the last name of an author (first name of an Icelandic author), or the title if there is no identifiable author.
