Manuscipts and Private Archives

The National Library has a large collection of manuscripts and private archives in store. The content can be found at Bókasavn.fo, and one can also contact the staff about the collection. Items can be fetched to the security vault of the library if they are meant to be accessible to public (see Terms of use for manuscipts and rare materials). Please fill out this application form in order so see manuscripts and other rare materials. 

On the website Handrit.fo it is possible to look at a small part of the collection, cataloguing information and pictures. New additions will be added to the websites next year (2021).

The Faroese National Collection accepts manuscripts of all kinds of private archives that the general public has at their disposal. We encourage everyone that has old documents in their possession to come to us with their preservation in mind.
