The National Library and research
The National Library is as University Library obliged to disseminate knowledge and information in the country and provide science-based library services in collaboration with the university and other scientific institutions.
The library provides library services in all subject areas by giving access to scientific journals and databases. On behalf of researchers in the Faroe Islands the library orders scientific books, that it cannot provide as inter urban loans.
These institutions cooperate on access to scientific journals online: Fiskaaling, Fróðskaparsetur Føroya, Granskingarráð Føroya, Havstovan, Heilsufrøðiliga starvsstovan, Landsbókasavnið og Landssjúkrahúsið. Go to Digital content
Access scientific journals at home
Usually you have access to the journals from your institution without logging in. If you need remote access Landsbókasavnið can provide it for you through Open Athens.
Students at the university:
Send an application to utlan@landsbokasavnid.fo and you will receive a document to complete.
Staff at one of the institutions in FRIS - Faroe Research Information Service:
Send application to utlan@landsbokasavnid.fo with information on:
Institution, name, date of birth, address, telephone number and email.
Faroese scientific material
In the library's main database, you will find most of the library's own scientific material, including material in the Faroese Department and the Manuscript Department. Go to bokasavn.fo
Some of the older material in the Faroese department is not cataloged in the online database. Therefore, you should ask for assistance at the Service desk, if you do not find it in bokasavn.fo.
